New Muslim Cool Premier

Don’t miss it! It’s today on PBS! New Muslim Cool.

“Puerto Rican-American rapper Hamza PĂ©rez pulled himself out of drug dealing and street life 12 years ago and became a Muslim. Now he’s moved to Pittsburgh’s tough North Side to start a new religious community, rebuild his shattered family and take his message of faith to other young people through hard-hitting hip-hop music. But when the FBI raids his mosque, Hamza must confront the realities of the post-9/11 world, and himself.”

Watch it on PBS today!

“..Know that what has passed you was not going to befall you, and what has befallen you was not going to pass you. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship.”

If you don’t know about it already, Explorers is a very neat board game, which, besides being quite fun, is also educational (well, maybe this part is only exciting for nerds like me, but anyhow:) – it’s aim is to spread knowledge about the heritage of the Middle East.

You can read all about it on their website.

It’s expensive to buy online & ship into the US (it’s $96 with shipping), so you are lucky if you have some friends who can get it for you. I’ve been dying to have it .. but no luck thus far :)

some day ..

Little Mosque on the Prairie is a Canadian TV series which kept me rolling on the floor laughing [almost:)] for the whole evening :)

If you are not in Canada, you can watch some of the episodes here: Little Mosque on the Prairie

Also, check out Fatima’s Recipies!

If you are into typography, or a beginner in Arabic calligraphy, you might find these presentations (watch them here) by Thomas Milo, Tarek Atrissi, and Titus Nemeth from An Evening of Arabic Typography quite interesting.

I personally liked the one about Arabic scripts most.

can not embed this one, unfortunately, but here’s a wonderful video from one of Foundation for Knowledge and Development‘s lectures:

On the Verge of Sin with Moutasem al-Hameedy
